Unified communications system is a business system, that encompasses a broad range of technologies and application that have been designed, sold and supported as a single communications platform or as one entity. Unified communications system generally enable companies to use integrated data, video, and voice in one supported product.

Many of the VoiceCon vendors who showed off more collaboratively focused software would include that core feature set and then add other collaborative applications on top to distinguish their products from the multitude of others on the market.

Unified Communication (UC) is the integration of real-time communication services such as istant messaging (chat), presence information, telephony (including IP telephony), video conferencing, data sharing (including web connected electronic whiteboards interactive whiteboards), call control and speech recognition with non-real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax).
